2010 Debut Author Challenge

Posted by Cat. Posted in: Challenge

I suck at challenges.  I don’t even think I like challenges. But you know what? There are a ton of books on this list that I already have on my wishlist and am planning on reading anyhow. And I adore Kristi, so I thought, why not “sign up” and since I’ll be reading a few of these books anyhow, it’ll be easy. Right?

So what do I have to do?

  • The objective is to read a set number of YA (Young Adult) or MG (Middle Grade) novels from debut authors published this year.* (limited to 2010 releases only.)
  • The challenge will run from January 1, 2010- December 31, 2010.

And I think I can do this. Kristi is challenging everyone to at least 12 books. Her own list is over 100!! (I’m just impressed there are over 100 debut authors in YA/MG next year!) I keep adding new books to my list as I discover more and more. I have a couple of the debut books in my crappy town library, which is exciting because the stores near me are not carrying any of them in store! So frustrating!!

  1. Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkinsreview
  2. Firespell by Chloe Neillreview
  3. The Iron King by Julie Kagawa - review
  4. Prophecy of Days, Book One: The Daykeeper’s Grimoire by Christy Raedekereview
  5. The Books of Elsewhere Volume 1: The Shadows by Jacqueline West
  6. Voices of Dragons by Carrie Vaughn
  7. Forbidden Sea by Sheila A. Nielson
  8. Owl Keeper by Christine Brodien-Jonesreview
  9. The Witch’s Alphabet by Caitlin Kittredge
  10. Mistwood by Leah Cypessreview
  11. The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff - review (Oct 2010)
  12. Brightly Woven by Alexandra Bracken - review

So, let’s see how I do. I don’t have a ton of faith in myself, only because I have a lousy challenge track record, which is why I tend not to do them. But since more than half of those books are already on my wishlist, I figure I’m semi-safe.

  1. I’m probably not going to sign up for this one but I’m going to start signing up for challenges sometime this week.

The only reason I did was because I wanted to read these books anyhow and had most of them on my wishlist already. Safe challenge!
