Dreamfever
by Karen Marie Moning
So, I’ll be putting this book up on Bookmooch soon. I am so devastatingly disappointed with this book that I actually regret having bought the hard cover and not just waiting until next summer for the mass market version. After enjoying Faefever so immensely and with the way it ended, I was sure that picking up book 4 in hard cover would be worth it. But sadly, it didn’t live up to any expectations to me. AND add to that the fact that the third part of the book finally got interesting only to end abruptly, when you thought there was more story only to have 10 PAGES OF GLOSSARY! 10 PAGES! Of GLOSSARY!
ARGH!
I’m trying to figure out a way to review the book without spoiling anything, if anything I might spoil one of the first three books, so be warned (although I do try my best to be as vague as possible!). Thoughts running through my head as I started to read Dreamfever:
- Wow, this is poorly written
- OMG I hate Dani!
- Please tell me the story is going to go somewhere
- I guess we know why there was no sex in the first 2.75 books
- OMFG I HATE DANI!
- Didn’t I used to care about these characters?
And I well and truly hate that 13-year old Dani. I don’t like her attitude, I don’t like the way she is written, her speech makes me angry. And I knew from previous books that the character did not click with me, however she was always in teenier portions. She was way too main-charactery for my liking in this book.
I am so sick of the faux hate relationship between Mac and Barrons. I really, really am. Neither of them will suck it up and appreciate it when the other helps them out, or tries to be nice. There’s always a glimmer of a moment and then they are at each other’s throats again with hate and it’s driving me crazy. And don’t get me started on V’Lane because I have never liked him.
The first two thirds of the book I could have written off. The last part? Part 3? It actually got my attention and if the entire book had been like that I would have loved almost every second. Sadly, I had to wade through all sorts of stupidity in order to get there.
I am now torn about the fifth and final book in the series, Shadowfever, when it comes out. Do I take the risk and buy the hard cover just to put the series to rest? So I wait an extra year for the paperback and prolong my curiosity as to what will happen next? Will the writing be decent like books 2 and 3 or will it sound like the author’s first attempt ever at writing a book like books 1 and 4? I guess I’ll make that decision when the book is actually finished, published and on the shelves. I think I have at least 11 months until that happens.
The Fever series
- Darkfever
- Bloodfever
- Faefever
- Dreamfever – hard cover edition
- Shadowfever - coming soon?

Maybe you can compromise and get it from a library?! Then you can still read it but don’t have to shell out the cash for it?!

Ah, but that would only work if I had a library that had more than 20 English books, let alone close to current releases around.
I hate it when they trick you like that! When I read, especially if it’s something I really really enjoy, I somewhat keep in mind how many pages are left, so I can fully enjoy the rest of the story. It’s kind of obsessive, I know. Anyway, I also get annoyed when the last bit’s just all glossary! So disappointing…
Accepter your mooch friend request!!
I don’t put all my books on it, so you can check out my books for trade page =)

I’ve heard good and bad things about this series but when I tried her Highlander books I wasn’t that impressed so I haven’t picked these up. I doubt I will anytime soon either.
Too bad that you did not like this book.
I did like it. However, I hear you about Dani as she did get on my nerves. Yet, overall, I liked the story.
The difference for me was that I listened to the audiobook. I have been wondering if the audiobook version played a large role in my liking of this story?.? I am thinking so as the narrators did a fabulous job with the voices (IMHO).
The interesting thing is, I did not like Faefever at all. I found that book to be a big disappointment. Hmmm….
